Review: Lawyers in Love by N.M. Silber

Book Title: Lawyers in Love Series: The Law of Attraction and The Home Court Advantage

Author: NM Silber

Genre: Sexy Romantic Comedy

Release Date: November 22, 2013

~Synopsis~
Once upon a time two lawyers fell in love across a courtroom ...
Gabrielle Ginsberg was a public defender with plenty of nerve and Braden Pierce was an assistant district attorney with a whole lot of swagger. Gabrielle wanted Braden and Braden wanted Gabrielle.
And Cameron wanted Gabrielle.
And Marla wanted Braden.
And Cole wanted Gabrielle.
And Mrs. Mason wanted Braden.
And an anonymous letter writer wanted to keep Gabrielle and Braden apart.
Together Gabrielle and Braden discovered many important things, like which doors at the courthouse actually locked, and that desks could be useful for more than writing. They also found out that the path of love was not always smooth, and it was sometimes tread upon by some really wacky people, like a confused fanny grabber, an eighty-two year old pothead and a gentleman who threw a wine and cheese party in his pants. Could true love overcome a lack of privacy, interference by jealous rivals and the insanity of the criminal court system?

This is my first-ever book review, and man, did I get lucky. This book was absolutely adorable, and a wonderful introduction to the indie romance genre. I’m rating it four leaves!
It was incredibly refreshing to read a novel about law that didn’t focus on a sensational murder case, but rather the often-mundane task of defending/prosecuting minor crimes. This taste of reality, present throughout the novel, is infused throughout the book—instead of meeting one another and falling into each other’s arms, our hero and heroine, Braden Pierce and Gabrielle Ginsberg, have known each other for several months before deciding to date. They both know each other from their work and each finds the other attractive—but Gabrielle isn’t willing to be another one-night stand. After a round of Beer Sex Trivia, the two reach an agreement: three dates, and they’ll see how things go.
They then promptly fall into bed with one another (not that I’m complaining). Braden and Gabrielle are goofy, giggly and adorable together (but not too sicky-sweet), and the result is a steamy romance with heart. The dialogue is snappy and clever, and Sibler is a brave enough author to make a truly awkward character out of Gabrielle—she’s supposed to be kind of weird and socially inept. Sibler makes sure that some of Gabrielle’s jokes fall flat—and it works. Gabrielle doesn’t always have a clever response, and she makes bad puns—she feels like a real person. My only complaint was that I wish the twist was incorporated into the story a little better, and that the story ended really abruptly. On the flip side, this was a two-part story, so I look forward to seeing how the twist plays out. I won’t say anything more—that would spoil my next review (for part two)!
Check this one out guys—it’s a fun, quick read, and you won’t be disappointed.

~Synopsis~
Once upon a time, two lawyers fell in love …

Gabrielle and Braden have fallen in love and face a bright future together if they can just survive all of the crazy people they encounter, like anonymous napkin droppers, UFO enthusiasts, crooked businessmen, nude drunk drivers, and a woman who tries to break into jail. When the gavel falls will the verdict be happily ever after?

Come join the fun as the sexiest couple in the Philadelphia Criminal Court System shares more witty banter and red hot lovin’ with a dash of mystery thrown in. The story that began with The Law of Attraction concludes with lots of love and laughter in The Home Court Advantage.

The Home Court Advantage is book two of the Lawyers in Love series, and a follow-up on the relationship between Gabrielle and Braden (plus some much-anticipated action between side characters Cam and Jess). I’m rating it four stars!
Don’t read this one (or this review) until you’ve read The Law of Attraction!
Braden and Gabrielle are getting married—just not quite yet. After getting engaged after just a few weeks of dating, our happy couple are content with just being together and reveling in their relationship. While this as a story on its own could have gotten boring very quickly, the twist from the previous book—a mysterious stranger is not only following Gabrielle, but sending her threatening warnings about her relationship with Braden.
But fear not, fellow Fallers, there’s still plenty of romance afoot, and it’s just as hot and sweet as before.
Although this book didn’t pack quite as good a punch as the first in the series, I still adored it. It was fun, and kind of a perfect summer read—not too dramatic, interesting, fun, and of course, sexy. Read it!

  ~About the Author~

Missy lives in a small town in Central Victoria with her husband, and her confused pets (a dog who think she’s a cat, a cat who thinks he’s a dog…you get the picture).
When she’s not writing, she can usually be found looking for something to read.
