Mercurial and charming, Tate Larson is a rising author and playboy who has a different woman on his arm every night of the week. Focused on his work, Tate has no plans to settle down any time soon. That is until he meets his pretty new assistant, Piper Donovan.

Desperate to escape the promise of backwater living, Piper ditched her Alabama hometown and never looked back. That was almost two years ago. Now that she is out of a job and her bank account is running on fumes, she’s desperate to find a job, fast. She finds the break she is searching for when she lands a position at Bookish Temptations. A little dancing and a lot of drinks with the girls seem the perfect way to celebrate. After a brief but explosive encounter with a man she was never supposed to see again turns out to be the same man she will be bending over backwards to please, her every instinct tells her to run. But when running means leaving the life she has struggled so hard to create, Piper decides her only option is to continue working for the devastatingly sexy Tate Larson...even if it kills her.

Unable to deny their growing attraction, they struggle to keep their distance in a relationship that requires anything but.

****Deleted Scene****

When Tate was working, he couldn’t be disturbed. Sometimes he would get so into the world he created that he was completely cut off from reality, which was why she made it her personal mission to make sure he was fed and well-cared for. Now she couldn’t seem to breathe without him jumping down her throat.
It puzzled her because, aside from that bone melting kiss he’d laid on her, nothing that she knew of had changed. At first she had been a little standoffish. Her emotions were in turmoil, unsure if he would remember their little lip lock or not, and if he did, wondering what his reaction would be. It became obvious pretty quick that he didn’t remember a thing, so Piper had eagerly stuffed the emotions down and gone back to her routine, pretending that night had never happened whenever she was in his presence.
At home at night was a different story, however. All alone, she could entertain whatever fantasy she wanted, and now that she had some material to work with, her fantasies had become steamy and erotic, far more intense than the simple kisses and touches she had imagined before.
Her insides heated as she relived a particularly hot encounter.
Tate had just finished stripping her of her panties, leaving her in nothing but her thigh-high stockings and a pair of red four inch heels. From his knees where he crouched before her, he looked up and smiled a devastating smile of pure male possessiveness, then began placing a series of kisses that ended at the junction between her thighs.
Belly quivering, her eyes skimmed the same line for the fourth time, and Piper finally gave up and dropped the book on the table. Glancing up at Tate, who she was surprised to find already staring at her with curious intensity, her body went liquid in response and she flushed from her top of her head to the tips of her toes.
“Are you feeling alright?” Tate asked. “You seemed pretty far away for a moment there.”
Piper opened her mouth to speak, but a lump had formed in her throat, making speech impossible. Taking a sip of her cafĂ© late, Piper cleared her throat and tried for a pleasant smile. “I’m fine. I was just thinking.”
Tate’s eyes skimmed down her body, lingering for a brief moment on her breasts before returning to her face. Slowly, he leaned across the table, a smug look of satisfaction playing on his handsome face. “Then why are your nipples hard and your face flushed with heat?”
