New York’s Finest
February 14, 2015
LADIES AND GENTS! I have an announcement! You know that guy I featured on my blog a few months ago? The really, really hot Irish rugby player who plays the position of ‘hooker’ in the RLI (Rugby League International)? The one with the questionable fashion choices leading me to ask whether he was the lovechild of a leprechaun and a hobbit? The one with the anger management issues and the body of a gladiator and the face of a movie star? Ronan Fitzpatrick? Yeah, that guy.Well, I have a confession to make…
THE HERMIT
Annie Catrel, social media expert extraordinaire at Davidson & Croft Media and clandestine celebrity blogger, can make anyone shine in the court of public opinion. She is the Socialmedialite, anonymous creator of New York’s Finest and the internet’s darling. Virtual reality is Annie’s forte, but actual reality? Not so much.
THE HOOKER
Ronan Fitzpatrick, aka the best hooker the world of rugby has seen in decades, despises the media—social or otherwise. The press has spun a web of lies depicting him as rugby’s wild and reckless bad boy.
Suspended from his team, Ronan has come to Manhattan to escape the drama, lay low, fly under the radar. Only, Ronan isn’t easy to overlook, and he can’t escape the notice of the Socialmedialite…
THE PLAN
When Ronan is sent to Davidson & Croft Media to reshape his public image, he never expects to cross paths with shy but beautiful Annie, nor does he expect his fierce attraction to her. He couldn’t be happier when her boss suggests pairing them together.
What lengths will Annie take to keep her virtual identity concealed? And what happens when the hooker discovers who the hermit really is?
The Hooker and the Hermit is a collaboration between authors L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid, is a full length 100k word novel, and is a standalone.

~*REVIEW BY ELYSSA*~
If you’ve read any of my past reviews, you Fallers know I’m
a massive fan of Penny Reid—and as it so happens I’m also a huge fan of LH
Cosway. So when I saw they were co-writing a book, I did a little happy dance,
made a little shriek, and then impatiently waited for months for the book to
finally release. And the wait was so, so worth it. I’m giving The Hooker and
the Hermit FIVE LEAVES.
Fallers, I bet you think this story
is about a hooker. And it is—but it’s definitely not what you’re thinking.
Before we get started, you should know that the hooker in this story is a man—his
name is Ronan Fitzpatrick, he’s Irish, and he’s the hooker (a sort of
equivalent of a quarterback) for a professional Irish rugby team. The man has a
mouth on him, a temper on him, and a positively delicious body. And he’s
head-over heels for Annie Catrel, our resident hermit, social-media whiz, and
slight agoraphobe. Annie’s been tasked by rehabbing Ronan’s image—after an
inciting incident with a fellow teammate, he’s on the outs with the Irish media
despite the fact he may be the greatest hooker rugby’s ever seen. Paired with
the rugby league’s desire to make him the David Beckham of rugby and his desire
to remain anonymous and offline despite his already modest fame, it doesn’t
seem like he and Annie would mesh, but they do. Oh, they so so do.
What I love about this story—and what
I love so much about both Cosway and Reid—is that it’s so unbelievably human.
So often we read and read and read in the romance genre—many of us read multiple
books a week, or at least multiple books a month and we get swept away by the
unbelievable—the ridiculous grand gestures, the love-at-first-sight, the
ridiculously attractive falling for the ridiculously attractive. There’s nothing
human about these stories, at times. They’re a wonderful read, but they have no
real grounding in reality. What’s beautiful about The Hooker and the Hermit is
that it’s small parts unbelievable, and big parts reality. People in real life
don’t get swept away and get married after two months after weeks of hot sex
and immediate declarations of “I love you.” Okay, maybe that’s happened to
like, five people. But you get my meaning.
The romance between Annie and Ronan
is so real—full of false starts, occasional confusion, and fear. Fear that
things are moving too fast, fear of feeling too much too fast, fear of falling,
and fear of giving up your heart to another person—that fear and presence of
human emotion is what drives the novel—the real, palpable emotions that we feel
every time we start a relationship with someone new. Cosway and Reid paint a
beautiful story of two people trying hard to change and be better for one another.
It’s mixed with a hearty dose of their characteristic, offbeat humor and
wonderful characters you fall in love with instantly and want to root for.
I love
that (if it isn’t obvious already)—and that’s why I think this is an absolute must-read,
Fallers. Pick it up on Amazon, borrow it from a friend, do something to get
your hands on this one.

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).
By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
