~*REVIEW BY ELYSSA*~

Dear Fallers, I love Scenes from the City by Penny Reid. If I could give it a million leaves, I would. But I can’t because we have a ranking system here on Falling in Fall that actually makes sense, so I give it FIVE LEAVES.
This is a LIMITED RELEASE. It’s only available Dec. 1 through Dec. 15, so BUY IT NOW. NOW. NOW.
Where to even start, Fallers? I discovered Penny Reid totally by accident a few months ago. We were divvying up books for reviews on the blog and I randomly picked her book Beauty and the Moustache. I don’t even know why I picked it. I don’t like the outdoors, overly philosophical people, or books about people dying. But I picked it, and I have been so, so happy that I did ever since. Seriously. Had I known what absolute fun was going to be waiting for me, I would have started reading the book sooner than I did. Beauty and the Moustache was the latest in Penny’s Knitting in the City series, featuring so far, Janie, Elizabeth, Sonya, and Ashley, four women with very different personalities and lifestyles and very different love stories.
Scenes from the City is like a surprise chocolate cupcake dropped off at your desk halfway through the workday for people like me, who can’t get enough of Penny’s series. It features five short snippets—scenes of the lives of our four heroines thus far, plus a taste of Greg and Fiona’s story, which is due out in 2015 (Yay!). I can’t even begin to be short-winded enough to give a long review for each story (because look how long I’ve already gone on). I’m going to try to keep it to one sentence each (EDIT: I failed), plus my favorite quotes.
1.       Janie and Quinn: Janie and Quinn are on their honeymoon, and it’s so cute I wanted to vomit (not really, but let’s just say the honeymoon involved some dead frogs, Quinn being fascinated by his wife as always, and no real clothes in sight). Favorite quote: “I would consider suntan lotion a type of clothing… It covers your skin, you put it on, it shields you from the sun. It’s clothing.”\
2.       Elizabeth and Nico: They are my favorites and can do no wrong anyway, but this scene of Nico helping Elizabeth through a rough patch + vulnerable conversation = Elyssa is a super happy camper. Favorite quote: “You can cry, you can scream, you can be your feelings and I will love you just the same.”
3.       Sonya and Alex: One word: Tasers. I’m not even going to tell you more, Fallers. Favorite quote: “Who else was ever going to get me and think I was awesome instead of disturbed? Alex. Only Alex.”
4.       Ashley and Drew: This was so sweet and poignant. This was my favorite scene, hands down. Absolutely beautiful. I won’t even give anything away because that would ruin how absolutely gorgeous it was. “I exist as many things. All of them are in love with you.”
5.       Fiona and Greg: I WANT TO MEET GREG. It’s official. I can’t wait to meet Greg. I don’t want to wait. You can’t make me. Favorite quote: “This is my chance to ruin you for anyone else.”
That’s it for me, Fallers. But if you haven’t read any Penny Reid, START NOW. NOW. Because she’s become my favorite author in a very short amount of time. Like, seriously. Do it. Buy. Now.

~*ABOUT THE AUTHOR*~
SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).
By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
