I am such a huge fan of Wendy and her Hamden series and this one definitely cemented my love. Wendy has come up with stories that each person can relate to in some way and I love her writing style plus her imagination is pretty awesome. This is the fourth book in her series and my favorite by far, which is crazy considering how much I love her others. If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading about the other Hamden hotties then please do so; you will not be disappointed. Breaking Spades is the story about Cecilia “Cece” Cervetti and Jarod Gates who have an ugly past that will put their future to the test. We meet Cece in the last book as Dylan’s adopted little sister and if you read that book you know the story of how she and Dylan met. It is through Dylan that Cece and Jarod meet and sparks fly instantly but instead of jumping the gun, these two begin as friends. After a few shared kisses and touches, they have sex and Jarod, realizing his feelings for Cece are more than he’s ready for, pushes her away and enlist into the Marines. Cece, heartbroken and feeling alone, promises that she will never let another man into her life and mess with her dreams again. Flash forward a couple of years and Cece is doing well for herself as clothing boutique owner. She’s kept her promise of never letting a man get close and it’s been going great for her, until a break in at her boutique changes what she thought she wanted forever. Nothing was stolen; all the money still in its drawers and all that was left was a bouquet of white roses. Enter Jarod who has turned into a private investigator that Dylan has hired to follow and watch her. Cece being stubborn, knows that she can’t be anywhere near Jarod without old feelings and memories flooding back into her so she does what she can to make him leave her alone. Jarod isn’t having any of it and fights her until she can no longer deny the attraction. They give into the passion but each for a different reason; Jarod to win her heart and Cece to let go once and for all. Do Cece and Jarod get their HEA or does the past come back to end something that never really got a chance to start? Read it people you will not be disappointed! Each of the books in the Hamden series can be read as a standalone but the couples from the each book pop in so you might want to read them just to get your back ground info. I highly recommend this book and this series. Another win for Wendy!!

After Dex helps Ellie find her way to her friend’s apartment, Dex starts to remember what happened between the two and you find out their history. Ellie was raised in a foster home since she was five and it was down the street from Dexter’s family’s house which was how they met. Ellie would run away and climb through his window and stay the night with him every night until she had to leave. Without saying goodbye Ellie took off and broke Dex’s heart for the first time. The second time was four years earlier when she stopped by at his place in New York. Dexter told Ellie he loved her and she ran away again and Dexter went “numb”. Now after meeting again, Dexter is leering about letting her in but just can’t seem to keep his distance. Ellie is running from an ex in Maryland and ran to the safest place she knew: Dexter. Although she wasn’t planning to see Dexter at the bar, meeting him brings back those feelings of wanting to run again because she feels she isn’t good enough for him. Will these two ever get their HEA or will Ellie keep running away from the only stable thing she’s had in her life?  You’ll have to read to find out the rest. Although this is number 10 in the Love in Bloom series, this can be read as a standalone book.

My thoughts drift to creating a fantasy of Salem and me. We’re in the locker room at Frankie’s gym and I’m all hot and sweaty from training. I rated On The Ropes FOUR leaves!  When I found out Christa Cervone had a new novel out, I was like sign me up!!! I enjoyed her first novel Broken, because the way she can tell a story with a great dialogue.  Just like On The Ropes, this book was a wonderful read. This book is about two brothers that have not had the best upbringing in their lives.  Both of the boys had a lot of changes in their lives.  Gabriel was very lucky to find a mentor of such to set him on the right path.  Gabriel's bother, Jase was not so lucky.  Gabriel has a couple of things on his mind girls and boxing.  Gabriel wants to leave his past behind so he starts to go by the fight name "The Saint". Since girls is on also on his mind he meets a girl that will change him his game plan of life.  The attraction between "The Saint" and Salem is unbelievable, they are so drawn to each other it's crazy.  I really enjoyed this book even though I am not a boxing fan.  I now have to say boxing men are hot! The book is written from Gabriel's POV and a few from Salem.  Yes, of course there is a cliffhanger, but it's not so crazy, but it makes you excited for the next book!
